Environmental: Inspira invested in new ways to eliminate or reduce discharges of hazardous materials and waste and is expected to reduce consumption in all its areas of operation, constantly reviewing and continuously improving their environmental impacts, complemented with the development of certification procedures by third parties.
Social: Our motivation is to inspire and encourage a sustainable attitude among all stakeholders , from partners, vendors, employees to customers. We support the community through various partnerships with local institutions.
Economic: Inspira promotes and boosts the local economy by giving priority to products and services from local suppliers and fair trade.
Projects and Partnerships
IPSS (Private Social Solidarity Institution) provides services to people with Developmental Disorders Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and those related to them significantly. Inspira promotes the sale of articles made manually by the users of APPDA. The total revenue from the sale reverts to the IPSS.
IPSS founded with the aim to inform and enlighten parents, children and friends about issues related to pediatric oncology, the better to accept and live the disease, and contribute to the advancement of scientific research in this area. When purchasing a Heart-Xi available at the hotel reception, at a cost of € 15 will contribute to this cause.
Non-profit association which aims : contribute to the monitoring of people in end of life and their families, provide them serenity in life and dignity in death. Inspira promotes the sale of postcards and picture books whose proceeds will go entirely to the association.
NGO dedicated to construction of water pumps and sanitation facilities in African countries. Thanks to the amount of revenue from sale of water draws, it has been possible to co-finance the construction of three potable water pumps in villages in Malawi.
Bio Sintra (interest group) - PROJECT BIO SINTRA - "Reduction of carbon footprint, a contribution to value biodiversity in Sintra" is a project co-financed 50% by the LIFE program of the European Commission. It aims to change attitudes in order to reduce carbon emissions of daily activities by implementing a pilot project in the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, which can be reproducible elsewhere. Through this protocol, Inspira offers to help spreading the project’s message of environmental protection and to frequently participate in voluntary actions of environmental responsibility.

Green Globe - The Green Globe certification is assigned only in the area of tourism and travel, and consists of 41 criteria and 337 indicators. The main areas are: sustainable management, social / economic, cultural heritage and environment.
Green Key / "The Green Key" 2011/2012 - International Award for Environmental Education that promotes sustainable tourism through the recognition of good practice.
Travelife - Certification attributed to tourism establishments for good practice on sustainability. It offers the opportunity to achieve improvements through its scheme awards (bronze, silver and gold). Inspira Santa Marta Hotel was awarded the silver level in 2010 and the gold one in 2013.
ISO 14001 and 9001 - The ISO 14001 (environment) and 9001 (quality) are attributed to any organization that implements the requirements for management systems of its operations.
Certificate CarbonoZero ® - Certificate awarded by the compensation of the total value of 298.20 t CO 2 and 136 CO 2 (tons of carbon dioxide equivalent) resulting from the activities of the Inspira Santa Marta Hotel, from May 2010 to April 2011 and May 2011 to April 2012 respectively. The purchase of carbon credits in the portfolio of projects CarbonoZero ® compensation allowed Inspira to co-finance the forestry project Tapada Military Mafra, Portugal, and technological project of Nobrecel in Brazil.The project also included the indirect participation of customers, through participation of proceeds of 1€/night (which reverted to CarbonoZero and also to social responsibility initiatives) on each guest stay, prompting and encouraging the customers towards a more active involvement in environmental issues.
"Gold" Certificate on standards of hygiene and food safety : Certificate awarded to companies which obtain, 3 consecutive times, the value equal to or greater than 80% in HACCP audits.
"Valor mais" Certificate - Certificate awarded by the city of Lisbon in partnership with Valorsul, to establishments that meet the quality requirements with regard to separation and disposal of organic waste materials for recycling.
2011 Turismo de Portugal Award in the category of environmental sustainability – Turismo de Portugal Awards are a initiative which aims to award and promote projects and initiatives of touristic relevance which have significantly contributed to the supply quality and reinforcement of the sector’s competitiveness.
Sustainable Development Award - Initiative, held in partnership by the "Diario Economico" and Heidrick & Struggles, which has distinguished Portuguese companies that have excelled in the area of sustainability. Inspira Santa Marta Hotel was awarded the prize for Best Small Medium Enterprise in 2011.
Finalist in the category of Sustainable Development of 2012 Luso-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry Awards - Inspira has been honoured in the category of Sustainable Development, together with EFACEC Capital, SGPS, SA and Sonae, the award winner. The Luso-French Awards aim to encourage trade relations between Portugal and France, with a strong highlight on the effort and success achieved by companies developing strategies and investments in both markets.
2012 Best Concept Hotel for Events Award - The Events Ceremony awards are produced and organized by the ExpoEventos Office, sponsored by a vast network of partners and the advice of an Honorary Committee, composed of personalities and experts from the areas in competition. Inspira was the winner in the category of Best Concept Hotel for events with its Green Meetings concept.
Best Sustainable Hotel in Portugal 2013/2014 | International Hotel Awards - The International Hotel Awards were developed to identify, highlight and reward excellence throughout the global hospitality industry throughout a wide range of areas. It is the only organisation to provide 5-star accolades at an international level. The International Hotel Awards global competition determines the finest hotels and hospitality companies in the world. Inspira won the 5-star award for Best Sustainable Hotel awarded on a national.
